Innovation Ohio warns America of Ohio Senator JD Vance

Vance enhances extremism and division in our American democracy

Columbus, OH – 7.12.24 – Today, President/CEO of Innovation Ohio Desiree Tims expresses profound concern and dismay following the announcement of JD Vance as former President Donald Trump's vice-presidential running mate for the upcoming election. This decision underscores a continued alignment with divisive and regressive policies that threaten the progress and well-being of Ohioans and Americans nationwide.

“For Americans who may not know JD Vance, allow an Ohioan to tell you all about him” - Desiree Tims. “Senator Vance is backed by big businesses that price-gouges us at the supermarket and at the gas pump, while posting record profits. Vance is a danger to our democracy and has publicly sympathized with January 6th rioters who attacked the U.S. capitol. Vance also supports an extreme national abortion ban, inserting the government into our families’ personal medical decisions and undermining Ohioans’ reproductive freedom amendment. Vance doesn’t care about us, he is only looking out for himself.”

JD Vance's rise to the national stage as a vice-presidential candidate is a stark reminder of the challenges we face in preserving the integrity of our democratic institutions and ensuring the rights and dignity of all citizens. His track record reveals a pattern of policies and rhetoric that are out of touch with the needs and values of Ohio’s and our nation’s diverse communities.

Vance's tenure in the Senate has been marked by positions that conflict with the interests of working families, marginalized communities, and advocates for social progress. His support for policies that restrict voting rights, undermine healthcare access, and favor the wealthy elite raises significant concerns about the direction a Trump-Vance administration would take.

Innovation Ohio will continue to advocate for policies that reflect the values of inclusivity and progress. We urge all Ohioans to critically evaluate the implications of this vice-presidential selection and to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming election.
