Toolkit: stop rigged redistricting
-
Whether you care about providing access to affordable health care, achieving equal pay, reducing the gun violence that plagues our schools and communities, protecting voting rights, or dealing with the urgent threat of climate change, there is a fundamental structural barrier that prevents progress: gerrymandering. This is the tool that politicians use to manipulate the lines of their district in a way that benefits themselves and their party. This year, Ohio is the only state in our nation that is required to redraw their maps. And now President Trump is pressuring states to draw in several more Republican districts, with no regard for actually accurately representing the people there. Without public accountability, politicians can lock in an even more extreme gerrymander than we have now—one that will last through 2031! They’ve already shown how far they’re willing to go to hold power. Now they’re trying to rig our maps to send even more extreme politicians to Washington.
This toolkit offers timely messaging guidance, key talking points, digital assets, and the latest updates to help highlight the real-world harm of unfair district maps.

Gerrymandering hurts voters. We need to instill more trust and transparency in our government processes. Not less.
Ohio Republicans have created unconstitutional maps that the state Supreme Court struck down five times. Without public accountability, they may try to lock in even more extreme maps. We can’t let them.
Voters should choose their politicians, not the other way around. District maps should be drawn based on the way we vote, not the way politicians want us to vote.
Ohio voters have demanded equal districts. And the state Supreme Court has backed us up. This is the last chance this decade to draw our districts. Don’t cheat. Don’t settle.

Fair maps: will include 7 Democratic congressional seats and 8 Republican seats. These numbers reflect how Ohioans actually vote, at around 54% Republican.
Unconstitutional maps: are what Ohio Republicans have already submitted five times in this decade alone. We cannot trust them to draw fair maps without public accountability – especially now that the President is pressuring his party to draw in more Republican districts.
Deeply unpopular and irresponsible: strong majorities agree that district maps should be fair to all voters and not favor one party over another.
Everyone deserves equal voice and representation in government, and that is something that voters agree on across the political spectrum.

SOUND THE ALARM:
Tell everyone you know to keep an eye on Ohio’s redistricting process. We can expect hearings to start in September, and we will need to show widespread opposition to any gerrymandering attempts and rigged maps.
