Toolkit: Trump’s War on Iran

  • On February 28, the United States and Israel attacked Iran after weeks of military buildup and threats from President Trump. Large-scale strikes targeted Iranian military assets and the Islamic Republic’s top leadership, killing Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

More than 1,500 civilians have been killed so far, including at least 175 people who were killed by a reported U.S. strike on an Iranian elementary school, and up to 3.2 million have been displaced. Thirteen U.S. service members have been killed. [CFR, 03/26]

  • This is meant to be the foundation for the big story we are telling about Trump’s war.  Messages should be derived from it and incorporate the concepts, but do not need to be verbatim in every message. With gratitude to ASO Communications

Whether we celebrate Passover, Easter or Eid – we all deserve to be safe and free. From abusing and detaining children at home to dropping bombs on them in Iran, Trump and the MAGA regime are destroying families for their own power and profit.

Sen. Jon Husted and Ohio Republicans in Congress have signed off on a criminal war that is sending Ohio troops home in body bags, and making life harder here at home by driving up costs. Let’s come together and demand that Sen. Husted and our representatives in Congress use their power to end this war.

    • Lead with values: No matter where we live or how we worship, we all want to keep our families and ourselves safe and live in freedom.

    • Emphasize that Trump’s war on Iran is criminal and killing innocent people ALONG with making our lives harder at home by driving up costs. Focusing only on the impact on gas and fertilizer or the administration’s misplaced priorities, implies those are the reasons we shouldn’t be dropping bombs on children.

    • Name the villains. This is Trump’s war and he’s being enabled by Republicans in Congress like Sen. Husted.

    • Call on Sen. Husted & Ohioans in Congress to use their power and stop caving to Trump.

    • Since Trump launched his criminal war, more than 1,500 Iranian civilians have been killed, including hundreds of children. On the first day of the war, Trump bombed a school killing 168 schoolgirls.  [CFR, 03/26]

    • Three Ohio airmen have already been killed in Trump’s war that has no clear goal or plan. Family members of Tech Sgt. Tyler Simmons  of Columbus called the war “uncalled for.” [3/16 Guardian] Simmons’ father refuted Pete Hegseth’s claim that he urged the Secretary of Defense to finish the job. [3/19, NBC News]

    • Trump wants to start a war abroad so he can seize more power at home. Trump is losing. That is why he is waging an unpopular war in order to declare emergency war powers so he can control the outcome of the elections.

    • Trump’s war is making our lives worse here at home. Average U.S prices reached $3/gallon on Sunday March 1st, and will likely climb further due to the war with Iran. [Bloomberg, 03/02].  Farmers are planting less corn and other crops – which will drive up the cost of food – due to war-induced fertilizer shortages. [Reuters 4/1]

    • Americans want to be able to care for our families, not fight endless wars that destroy families abroad. But Trump claims he can’t fund health care and child care because of ballooning spending on war. “You can’t do it on a federal level. We have to take care of one thing: military protection. We have to guard the country.” [MS Now 4/2]

    • Sen Husted and Republicans in Congress defied the will of the people caved to Trump. The Constitution is clear: Congress decides when and whether the United States goes to war. Congress must act immediately and vote on existing resolutions preventing President Trump from continuing to drag us into a new war in the Middle East.

  • SOUND THE ALARM:

    • Share the truth: Trump is waging a war that is killing innocent people and making our lives harder here at home by driving up costs.

    WRITE & SPEAK OUT:

    • Publish op-eds or letters to the editor telling them how you feel about Trump and the MAGA regime destroying families for their own power and profit.
